Forthcoming Retirement of Dr Judith Penny

Dr Judith Penny will retire on 30th November 2023 having been a Partner for over 25 years at Bruntsfield Medical Practice.

We will of course miss her but are sure you will join us in wishing her a happy and well-deserved retirement.

We are currently recruiting for a GP to fill Dr Penny’s sessions and will let you know in due course who will be taking over her list from December.

Please ask at reception if you have any queries, or would like a copy of Dr Penny’s letter to patients, which can also be read below.

Dear Patients

After a great deal of thought, I have decided to retire at the end of November this year.

This has been a difficult decision to reach as I have loved being a GP at Bruntsfield for the past 25 years and there are many things about the job I will miss.  I could not have hoped for a better team of doctors, nurses, managers and administrative staff to work with and of course most importantly I will miss seeing you, our patients.

It has been a privilege and a pleasure to care for the patients at Bruntsfield, some of you I have got to know very well and many others I will only have met a few times.  The variety of problems we deal with in General practice is one of the joys of the job, but to me, even more important, is the fact that we can build relationships over many years which hopefully ensure better care and understanding.  I have been fortunate to be able to have this continuity with many of you, and I hope that as General Practice evolves this will continue to at least some extent.

So much has changed since I started as a doctor 37 years ago and our consultations are increasingly complex, so I hope you will forgive me for the times when you have sat in the waiting room as I ran late!

I would like to thank you all for being such a great community to work with, for the way you all coped so admirably through the pandemic and for adapting so well to all the rapid changes we had to make. Thank you for your trust, your resilience and your humour.  I hope you feel that we are getting back to a more normal way of consulting now and that some of the things we learnt during the pandemic have been helpful.

I am very confident that the great team at Bruntsfield will continue to care for you very well and wish you all the very best for the future.

With kind regards

Dr Judith Penny
