From 15th June there are two new conditions covered by the Pharmacy First Scheme.

Pharmacy First is an NHS Scotland service by which patients can attend their local community pharmacy for a variety of minor illnesses, without the need for an appointment, rather than attending their GP surgery.

You can read more about the service on NHSInform to learn what kind of conditions are currently covered.

NEW CONDITIONS COVERED

  1. Management of Herpes Zoster (Shingles) infection in patients over 18 years of age by registered pharmacists within Community Pharmacies. Allows for the prescribing of Aciclovir where appropriate.
  2. Management of skin infection in patients over 18 years of age by registered pharmacists within Community Pharmacies. Allows for the prescribing of Flucloxacillin where appropriate.

Speak to your local community pharmacist to see if they offer the Pharmacy First service.
