Dr Susan McL Galloway (Senior GP Partner)

Dr GallowayDr Galloway joined the practice in 1986, as a half-time partner. She has an interest and post-graduate experience in Women’s and Children’s health, and has been the Partner responsible, with the Nurse Practitioner, in organising care for our asthmatic patients. She is interested in clinical governance and introduced the Practice’s use of the patient’s ‘Birthday Month’ to trigger annual review of medical care.

She and Dr Cash were leading the Practice’s reapplication for the RCGP Quality Practice Award, originally awarded in 2002, renewed in 2008.

Dr Michael Cash (GP Partner)

Dr CashOriginally from Edinburgh, Dr Cash studied Medicine at Bristol University Medical School. He joined the Practice in 1996 after working in Australia, South Wales and the West Midlands. His particular interests are diabetes and cardiovascular medicine and he is a Clinical Assistant at the Diabetes Clinic at Edinburgh's Western General Hospital where he works for one session a week. Dr Cash also is a member of the CHP Clinical Effectiveness Group. He is an approved Trainer of General Practice Registrars and has responsibility for this area in the Practice.

Outside the Practice Dr Cash is busy with the activities of 3 children and enjoys watching and taking part in sport, with cricket being a particular interest. He also enjoys music and plays the french horn in a local orchestra.

Dr Judith Penny (GP Partner)

Dr PennyDr Penny joined the Practice in 1999 as a half time partner, having previously spent 6 years as a Principal in West Lothian. She brought with her experience of working and liaising with the Nursing Team and she has continued this work in our Practice.

She is particularly interested in paediatrics and women's health and has responsibility for overseeing the cervical screening programme in the practice.

Dr Nick Walls (GP Partner)

Dr WallsDr Walls joined the practice as a partner in 2005. He was well known to the practice having had attachments here as a medical student and for his year as a GP Registrar. Dr Walls has also worked as a Higher Professional Training Fellow in the Edinburgh University Department of General Practice, where he was actively involved in undergraduate and post-graduate teaching.

His main interest is exploring how processes can be developed and implemented to support health care workers deliver high quality health care. As part of his continuing interest in this area he recently completed a Masters in Administration at Strathclyde University.

Dr Judith Boyd (GP Partner)

Dr BoydDr Boyd has been a partner at the practice since 2008. During her time here she has become a trainer for GP trainees, and has developed an interest in teaching. She has a keen interest in family planning, and has been involved in offering coils and implanon contraceptive implants since Jan 2010.

Her other interests include Dermatology, Paediatrics and Palliative Care.

Dr Caroline Calvert (Salaried GP)

Dr CalvertDr Calvert spent the first two years after qualifying working in Edinburgh. She then worked in Northern Ireland followed by London to complete her GP training. She returned to Edinburgh in 2007, where she worked as a locum GP in various practices in the Lothians. She joined Bruntsfield Medical Practice as a Salaried GP in January 2007.

She has an interest in cardiovascular medicine as well as woman and children’s health. She has also completed her training in further family planning skills including the insertion of contraceptive coils.

Dr Fraser Uytman (Salaried GP)

Dr UtymanDr Uytman joined the practice permanently in 2010, having previously worked here during his GP Registrar training year. Originally from Pitlochry, he studied Medicine at Glasgow University, and after working initially in Scotland, spent some time in hospital work in Australia. He then returned to compete his GP training in Edinburgh.

Outside the practice, Dr Uytman enjoys time with his 2 children, and enjoys cycling and canoeing at the weekends.

Dr Jo Loudon (GP Retainee)

Dr LoudonDr Loudon joined the practice in April 2009 as a GP Retainer. She initially trained in Nottingham, and then spent a year working abroad in Australia. She returned to Edinburgh to complete her GP training, and spent her GP Registrar year working in Blackburn, West Lothian. Her particular interests include Women's Health and Family Planning.

Outside work, Dr Loudon very much enjoys being a mum of two young boys, and playing squash and tennis.

Dr Juliet Fairfax (GP Specialist Trainee)

Dr FairfaxDr Fairfax joined the practice in August 2010 for her last year of specialist GP training.

She has an interest in geriatric medicine, originally training to specialise in that field before switching to General Practice. She also has an interest in family planning and ENT.

Prior to joining Bruntsfield she spent 6 months at the Grange Medical Practice, then the Royal Victoria Hospital, ENT, Obstetrics & Gynaecology, and A&E.

Dr Anthony Simon (GP Specialist Trainee)

Dr SimonDr Simon joined the practice in February 2011 for his first six months of GP Training with us.

Before joining the practice he has worked at the Royal Victoria Hospital, the Western General Hospital, the Royal Infirmary of Edinburgh, the Royal Edinburgh Hospital, as well as Simpson GP Practice in Bathgate.

He has a special interest in medicine of the elderly, advance care planning, palliative care, mental wellbeing preventative medicine and paediatrics.

Dr Simon is currently on his second year of specialist training, based outwith the practice. He will return for his third and final year starting August 2012.
